Cocohut

Noticed some problems already! I am just going to create a list for you so you don't make the same mistakes.

1. Do not do everything so quickly; take your time.
2. More in depth research. Even though I pretty much read every Dart Frog site out there I missed a few facts that I could have used.
3.The foam shrunk away from the glass a little bit on the sides. I should have waited longer so I could fill in the excess gaps.
4.My money for the Dart Frog project is running low. Budget my money better.
5.Forgot to put some rocks in the background. I think with rocks it looks a whole lot better.

That's the start of my list of mistakes, so learn from them and embrace.

Not to mention my few updates to the terrarium. I now have a cocohut; yes in deed. Also can someone please tell me if a wolf spider would affect the dart frogs? I found a wolf spider and was bored. Can you guess what I did with it? Yes, I gave him a nice home until the Dart Frogs raid the tank! I looked up the species of spider I held hostage and it was a Wolf Spider. Sounds poisonous and aggressive doesn't it.To be honest they are just puny little things that are not poisonous at all. See for yourself and tell me if you have them around where you live.

OK back to the updates, I did also get a plexiglass lid with hinges and a knob fits well however, I haven't installed the hinges. And I took a trip out to my local pet shop and picked up a thermometer. I think I will end this post with an awesome picture.

Thinking about plants

I've been doing some research for the past day. My next goal is to choose some plants to put in the terrarium. I have decided to choose the following however, not sure if I will get all of them. Also, not mention I am trying to get some Riccia fluitans and Begonia foliosa at the moment. I've seen them incorporated in other terrariums and they look great. If all goes well I should have some plants in by the next day or so. Other then all that, I've added a few rocks. I would take a picture but who wants to see a bunch of rocks? One thing I regret is not putting any rock in the walls like a nice thin piece to make a platform.

My first steps

All my life I have loved toads, frogs and basically anything that lived in my backyard. I remember like it was yesterday. I would go on little expeditions looking for toads and I would catch them; putting them into any container I could get my hands on. Recently, I have really been interested in frogs and the whole process of taking care of them. I came across a site called Brian's Tropical's about a three days ago. Just by reading his site I could tell how passionate he was about dart frogs and tropical fish. Well, I browsed around and read his amazing well written tutorial on how to build a terrarium. I found out terrariums can be made from simple supplies and a little bit of patience. Motivated to make my own I went out and bought the supplies I was going to need.

Here's what I used
1. 10 Gallon Tank
2. Coco Substrate
3. Driftwood
4. Clay Balls or Hydra Balls
5. Pea Pebbles
6. Great Stuff Foam
7. 100% Black Silicone
8. 2 PVC Pipes
9. Moss
10. Plastic Screen

I also found some helpful tips at Black Jungle

I bought all the supplies in about a two day period. Today, I pretty much assembled it. Remember, this is only the first stage so hopefully I will have more updates. As you can probably tell I haven't talked about the actual dart frogs. More likely because I don't have any yet. I am hoping to get them after May 6. Reason is... I will being going on vacation and wont have anyone to feed them.

These pictures are not so good but you will have to deal!
